 The
Pines Motorlodge,
the
Center Street Guest House and
Maple
Ridge Cottages are owned and operated by Rob and Steve
both from Indianapolis, Indiana.
Before The
Pines, Rob spent several years as Director of Christmas
Service and Winter Assistance Fund, a program serving over
10,000 families.
Similarly, Steve spent several years as Executive
Director of The Indiana Youth Group (IYG), a youth
development program for GLBT young people aged 12-20 and as Director
of Community Relations with the Marion County Commission on
Youth (MCCOY).
 Rob
and Steve purchased The Pines Motel in 2001 and spent their
first year as new owners performing all housekeeping, laundry,
and maintenance to get to know the property, its guests and
how guests used the rooms. At the end of their first
season, they put together a 5 year renovation plan based on
guest feedback.
In
2002,
the front building which served as an office and manager's
quarters was completely gutted with the addition of several
new windows and French doors to create a new office, a gift
shop, Groovy! Groovy! Retro Gift
Gallery, and a cozy hospitality suite for guests to
enjoy continental breakfast and weekend social hours.
As
well, the old sign was renovated to reflect the new name
change from Motel to Motorlodge, embracing the property's
strong past as the popular Plaza Tourist's Court.
Most noticeably, the building's exterior color went from a
drab teal and mauve to a festive,
VIBRANT LIME GREEN.
In 2003,
the first three rooms were
renovated to include new bathrooms, knotty pine ceilings (OF
COURSE!), new AC/Heat units, ceiling fans, Amish made log
furnishings, king beds with pillow top mattresses, down
duvets, new carpeting and ceramic tile.
In 2004,
the final 10 rooms were renovated in the same style making
each room feel like a woodland cottage with the convenience of
a central location. As well, wireless internet was
installed for guest use in the hospitality suite.
2005
marked the end of major property
renovations, one year ahead of schedule, with the addition of
facade finishes to include columns and brackets on the room
portion of the property to match the front building.
In
2006, Rob and Steve introduced a third property, the newly
renovated Maple Ridge Cottages, located in Saugatuck.
The property features four cozy bungalows in a wooded,
compound setting each with 2 queen bedrooms, full bath, fully equipped
kitchen with stainless appliances, living room with gas
fireplace and private deck with Jacuzzi and grill.
